Acknowledgment of Musical Memories’ Inspiration
We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Ms. Maria DeBacco, whose vision and compassion inspired the creation of Musical Memories. It was Ms. Maria who first took her students, including Tara Lim (our original co-founder), to visit a local memory care unit. That experience sparked a deep connection between music and memory, and ultimately led to the founding of Musical Memories.
We are grateful for her guidance and support in those early stages. Her dedication to intergenerational connection through the arts planted the seed for what became a meaningful program for many.
Project Origin
Musical Memories Project was founded in 2022 after Tara Lim was inspired by her longtime piano teacher, Ms. Maria DeBacco, who shared the idea of using familiar music to help awaken memories in individuals with dementia. Moved by this concept, Tara and her parents launched a program to bring live music to memory care communities.
Over the years, the project grew to include student musicians, heartfelt recitals, educational outreach, and creative content to connect generations. Musical Memories has touched the lives of countless seniors and youth, using music as a bridge to spark joy, comfort, and human connection.
