At the Musical Memories Project, we are constantly moved by the power of music to bring people together, spark memories, and light up a room. Our recent event, "Songs from Old Movies & Classic Melodies" at The Heritage at Irene Woods, was a beautiful testament to that—and a massive reason for the afternoon's success was our incredible guest artist, Chip Houston.
Chip’s performance was an absolute showstopper. The residents were so captivated by his rich voice and warm stage presence that many were singing along, and our audience even asked when we could all come back for a return performance!
Meet the Artist: Chip Houston
Chip Houston is a Memphis-based conductor and bass-baritone with deep roots in church and community music. Trained as a singer with a background in elementary education, Chip brings a unique warmth, patience, and joy to every stage he steps onto.
Beyond his solo vocal work, Chip has a profound passion for musical mentorship. He directs a community teaching orchestra with a distinct ministry focus, dedicated to working with musicians of all skill levels to bring the joy of ensemble playing to life.
We were absolutely delighted to have him partner with our Music Director, Maria DeBacco, for an unforgettable afternoon of Broadway and film favorites—sharing timeless songs that have shaped generations of audiences.
The Setlist: A Nostalgic Journey
Chip blew the crowd away with an extraordinary 5-song set of theatrical and cinematic masterpieces. His song selections brought back a wave of wonderful nostalgia for the residents:
"Oh What a Beautiful Morning" (Oklahoma) – A bright, optimistic opening that instantly had the room smiling.
"Look To The Rainbow" (Finian's Rainbow) – A beautiful, whimsical performance.
"Moon River" (Breakfast at Tiffany's) – A tender, deeply moving rendition of an all-time classic.
"Try to Remember" (The Fantastiks) – A nostalgic piece that perfectly captured the spirit of the afternoon.
"Ol' Man River" (Show Boat) – A powerful, deeply resonant, and unforgettable finale that drew the warmest applause.
