At Musical Memories Project, we are continuously inspired by how music transcends borders, connects generations, and weaves together rich cultural traditions. We were honored to welcome guest artists Esra Karagöz Yüksek and Oğuzhan Yüksek for a memorable performance at The Farms at Bailey Station Retirement Community.

Esra and Oğuzhan brought the heart of Turkish musical traditions to our seniors—combining the breathy, meditative soul of the traditional ney (reed flute) with expressive, captivating vocals. What makes their contribution even more remarkable is how both artists balance flourishing careers in technology and engineering with a lifelong devotion to their musical heritage.

Esra Karagöz Yüksek — Vocals & Choir

Esra Karagoz Yuksek is a Global MarTech professional who has been singing since the age of seven. Born in Izmir, Turkey, she developed her musical talents through training and performances with prestigious ensembles, including the Izmir Opera and Ballet Youth Choir, Izmir Symphony Orchestra Youth Choir, and Bogazici University Rock Choir. An experienced vocalist who has performed both in choirs and as a featured soloist, Esra seamlessly balances her career in industrial engineering and marketing technology with her lifelong passion for music.

Oğuzhan Yüksek — Ney

Oğuzhan Yuksek is an IT professional who has been dedicated to playing the ney—a traditional wind instrument central to classical Turkish music—for over 20 years. After discovering his passion for the instrument while studying engineering in Istanbul, he spent years refining his craft through advanced workshops, music theory courses, and stage performances with local ensembles. Today, Oguzhan balances his technology career with his lifelong love for music, continuing to perform and share the rich sounds of the ney.

Bringing Anatolian Traditions to Our Community

During their performance, Esra and Oğuzhan led our audience through iconic Turkish classics—ranging from 19th-century Ottoman urban melodies to poignant Anatolian folk ballads by legendary bards like Neşet Ertaş. They also delighted residents with a playful, unexpected rendition of "Take Me Home, Country Roads," beautifully illustrating how traditional instruments can bring a fresh, cross-cultural perspective to familiar favorites.

Gratitude from Musical Memories Project

We extend our deepest thanks to Esra and Oğuzhan for sharing their extraordinary talent, warm spirits, and rich cultural traditions with our Memphis-area community. Their dedication demonstrates that music is not just a pastime, but a lifelong bridge connecting history, community, and heart.
